While most technology gadgets decline in price pretty quickly, I noticed that 2nd Generation Apple TV units routinely sell for $200 – $300 in the used market on Amazon and eBay while 3rd Generation units (current version) sell for $65-$80 used ($89 new).

I believe this is because the 2nd generation units are easier to jailbreak as custom entertainment centers but I haven’t verified this.

As I have no interest in jailbreaking, I listed my 2nd Generation unit on Amazon and it sold for $199 in 12 hours. Not bad for a unit purchased for half that several years ago.
