I appreciated how Kayla Chadwick’s quote from her essay on compassion and politics rose above the fray to draw an insightful observation. I came across it via Twitter.
When Ronald Reagan granted Rupert Murdock citizenship in ~1985 to purchase an American television station, few of us realized that he and the departed Roger Ailes would exploit the anger of Americans feeling increasing economic pressures and our cultural legacy of racism to build a media empire. I think they’ve “nurtured” the selfish, me-first, hateful environment that Chadwick speaks about.
Of course, the current White House resident has also used hate, racism and anger at the wealth gap to leverage increased power for the elite, wealthy and Russian.
